“Radiology Associates contracts Change Healthcare to bill for professional radiology services done at WFPH, Womans Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake, Lane Regional, and many other hospitals and clinics in the Baton Rouge region and other areas of Louisiana. In February 2024 Change Healthcare, which is a subsidiary of Optum/ United Healthcare, was the target of a ransomware attack. The attack impacted multiple systems within the Optum environment, and Optum chose to shut down the medical billing system to prevent data loss. Optum worked to rebuild their billing system over the next 7 months and brought the new system online in September 2024. Due to a bug in the new billing system, some patient insurance files were not correctly matched with the patient account resulting in patients being billed directly for a service that was covered by their insurance company. Optum has since found and resolved the system issue.
Any patient who received a statement that does not reflect their insurance company’s adjudication should call Change Healthcare and talk with a client representative to help resolve their open balance.
